Keener Jerseys’ Championship Kickoff

The Season Kickoff

Last Friday, Keener Jerseys kicked off the family day long weekend with the first annual KJ Championship Kickoff. Co-founders Jason Olson and Chris ‘Keener’ Dougherty gathered the team in true NHL draft-style delivering the company’s vision and goals for the 2019 season. Every single player on Team KJ plays a vital role in our success and elevating Keener Jerseys.

It’s been an exciting, exhausting, exhilarating and sometimes emotional four years building Keener Jerseys from the ground up. Gratefully, many of our players on our team have been here since the beginning. Start-ups are not for the faint of heart, but we believe we are the best at what we do and have the best team around us. Team KJ has worked hard to get us where we are today and none of this would be possible without them.

The Champion’s Mindset

Just as we want the teams who wear Keener jerseys to feel like champions, we want the people creating those jerseys to feel the same. That feeling begins by having a champion’s mindset right from the first stitch sewn here at KJHQ.

To inspire Team KJ to think like a champ, we asked them who they believed to true champions and why. The answers varied from Bo Jackson, Wayne Gretzky, Marie Philip-Poulin, Roger Federer, Tom Brady and Serena Williams. Some staff even chose non-sport related champions, the likes of Nelson Mandela and Oprah, who have succeeded in inspiring minds and hearts around the world.

Every member of Team KJ member put forward the qualities they feel make up a true champion. Here’s what they said:
  1. Desire: champions require a level of desire, passion and dedication that drives them to constantly work at their craft.
  2. Discipline: hard work is hard work, there’s no getting around it. A true champion puts in the work day in and day out to achieve the desired results.
  3. Focus: it takes strong mental focus to block out distractions. This kind of focus is deeply connected to the discipline mentioned in number two. It’s extremely difficult to be focussed if one is not disciplined.
  4. Humilty: being teachable and open to learning is key. A true champion at the top of their game always remains open to learning from coaches, teammates, mentors, colleagues and community.

These are the qualities we strive to adhere to in our day to day operations at Keener Jerseys. We think like champions here, so that you, our clients, can feel like champions in the game.

Whether your team plays junior hockey, NHL, little league or beer league, each player, regardless of their status, should feel like a champ with a Keener jersey on their back.

The Draft

Our Keener Jerseys Championship Kickoff ended with a true draft pick celebration. Keener and Jason called up to accept their Team KJ jersey complete with name and number on the back. To create a unique jersey for each team member, we sewed shoulder patches with images of their chosen champions on each jersey. It was a great way to bring the team together to share some laughs, get inspired, and take on the new season.
